Functional testing is at the basis of our standard exam. Functional testing allows your mobility, stability, balance, and motor control to be assessed. Whether you are a professional athlete or an industrial athlete, functional limitations are what perpetuate tissue injury and determining these limitations are key to not only recovery, but also protection in the future. Dr. Leonard uses the most research, reliable system to asses patients movement quality. Functional Movement Screen or FMS is quickly becoming the go to process in athletics and all around musculoskeletal assessment. FMS is a seven screen process to create a baseline in which to develop treatment plans, corrective exercises and performance enhancement.
Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS)
Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) is a new manual rehabilitative approach based on developmental movement principles, which is rapidly gaining international popularity among health care providers, trainers, athletes, and patients. Based upon the work of Professor Pavel Kolar at Charles University’s Motol Hospital in Prague, DNS evolved in Central Europe’s Czech Republic and is the culmination of the evolving clinical methods from the internationally renowned Prague School of Manual Medicine and Rehabilitation. DNS therapy integrates neurological reflex stimulation with joint manipulation, soft tissue mobilization, postural awareness, respiratory training, exercise, and education to achieve optimal function. RockTape is a special kind of tape known as kinesiology tape. First used by acupuncturists and chiropractors in Japan, today kinesiology tape is used by practitioners throughout the world to treat injuries and improve sports performance.
While the use of kinesiology is often associated with athletes such as Serena Williams, Kerri Walsh and Lance Armstrong, the reality is that RockTape is effective for the treatment of a wide variety of problems, not just sports injuries.

Gait assessment is also a pivotal part of Dr. Leonard’s standard examination. Foot mechanics need to be assessed in all lower extremity and low back injuries. Dr. Leonard is able to determine if in fact the patient possesses faulty gait mechanics and determine if exercise or orthoctic management is necessary. For the majority of cases Dr. Leonard will video tape the mechanics as to truly assess the motion.
